On September 14, Drumheller Town Council gave first reading to a new Municipal Development Plan (MDP) and Land Use Bylaw. The public hearing is scheduled for October 26th. On October 22 at 12:00pm, local businesses were invited to join the Drumheller Chamber and the Drumheller Resiliency and Flood Mitigation Office for an overview on the MDP and LUB.

These are challenging times for our world. Our federal, provincial and municipal governments have taken broad sweeping measures to protect us, as Canadians and Albertans, from the COVID-19 virus. While these measures are aimed at protecting our health from this global pandemic, they continue to have a devastating effect on our business community. First, please keep in mind that not all businesses require all levels of protective equipment. As per the Workplace Guidance for Business Owners document, business owners should conduct hazard assessments to identify existing and potential hazards related to COVID-19. Where elimination of these hazards is not possible or reasonable, they should be controlled. Please review the Workplace Guidance for Business Owners document and specifically the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) page as your first step. This page explains the levels of controls that businesses can use.

It is recommended to call local suppliers as quantities in stock may vary daily.

One of Drumheller’s main attractions and a key driver of local economic activity is being refurbished in time for its upcoming 20th anniversary, thanks in part to a federal investment of $200,000 through the Canadian Experiences Fund.

The World’s Largest Dinosaur (WLD), an iconic attraction in the heart of the Drumheller Valley, will undergo a scenic transformation of its exterior over the next month—ensuring it remains a key attraction for the Canadian Badlands.

After thorough consideration, the Celebration of Excellence Committee, consisting of representatives from the Drumheller Rotary Club, Drumheller and District Chamber of Commerce, Town of Drumheller and Travel Drumheller, has made the difficult decision to officially cancel the Celebration of Excellence for 2020.

Initially planned for June 11, the event was put on pause with the hopes of rescheduling in the fall. However, the event has an expected attendance of over 200 people and there is still uncertainty over whether or not an indoor event of this size and nature could be held in the fall. Various options to hold the event virtually were explored, but committee members agreed that this particular event has a much greater impact for the community when all can gather and celebrate in person.
